Sitting at 1805m above sea level, Mount Buller offers 1111 acres (450 Hectares) of skiable terrain with 100k’s of runs, which can be access using 21 lifts. Mt Buller’s terrain caters to all level of skiers with the majority (45%) suiting Intermediate level skiers and snowboarders. Beginners can take advantage of the excellent calibre of ski instructors and after a few lessons often find themselves able to explore some of the harder terrain. For advanced skiers and snowboarders 30% of the terrain is perfect to challenge you and there are also some awesome cut trails for moguls, tree skiing, and off-piste areas that includes rock features.
Ski season typically runs from June to Late-September at Mt Buller, but snow quality at Mt Buller can mean that lifts are not operating. While Mt Buller does have snowmaking capacity to cover some runs, for the best access we highly recommend travelling in July and August for the best conditions.
Mt Buller is extremely well set up for families, there is a large snow school with a childcare centre for children aged between 3 months to 3 years old as well as lots of off snow activities to keep the little ones amused.

Mt Buller is very well set up and simple to navigate. While most accommodation is a short stroll away from the slopes or right there in the action, there is also a village shuttle bus service that can take you to and from your accommodation to the lifts.
Located 3.5 hours from Melbourne, making it the closest major Australian ski resort to any hub city. This prime location makes Mt Buller a very popular choice not only for Victorians, but skiers and snowboarders from around Australia. Families are especially tempted by the shorter distance, while some other ski resorts domestically require 6 hours in a car or bus, Mt Buller’s only a few hours away!
Skiing and snowboarding are by far the most popular thing to do in winter at Mount Buller, for something a little different there is also cross-country skiing, night skiing or hit up the terrain parks.
If your legs are tired from days on the ski field, there is still plenty to keep you entertained during your Mt Buller ski holiday! Families love tobogganing down the slopes, exploring the Gnome Roam and visiting the two snowplay parks at Mt Buller, did someone saw snowball fight? Mt Buller also offers dog sledding, which is an adorable photo op and loads of fun.

Après ski is an important part of any Aussie ski holiday, and Mt Buller won’t disappoint, with a great selection to suit every snowlovers après dreams. For the influencers cocktails at Snow Pony is a must-do photo opportunity, with hot boozy beverages like the ‘Picante Cocoa’ and ‘Hot Buttered Bourban’ you are sure to leave a little warmer on the inside.
First stop, a visit to the Ski Club of Victoria, where you can hang out with the ski patrol and other mountain staff, if you’re game see if you can get some tips from the locals about the best spots to explore during your stay. For those that like to go-big, head to the Kooroora Hotel for live music, DJ’s and shots. Don’t worry, snow-hangovers are easily cured after that first ride up the lift and maybe a cheeky breakfast beer.
Early bird gets the worm, and The Birdcage at Mount Buller Chalet does a fab happy hour from 4pm-6pm. For European vibes and great hospitality head to Herbie’s Bar at Pension Grimus for Schnapps, this alpine bar is an institution and the photos on the wall prove it!
Mt Buller has loads of dining options to choose from, for lunch hit up the Tirol café at the top of the Fox Chairlift. This on mountain venue offers excellent views, European lodge vibes and awesome café style food served with ice cold beer. Another great on snow option is Koflers Hutte, serving up hearty home-cooked meals with great vegetarian and vegan options as well.
For dinner, ABOM Bistro is famous for pizza and a great option for families. For something a little more upmarket, Mount Buller Chalet’s Black Cockatoo restaurant does incredible Asian fusion food, served on large plates ideal for sharing.
Kaptans Restaurant at Pension Grimus is Mt Buller favourite, no holiday is complete without trying the famous Austrian Wiener Schnitzel, not only does it sound fun and it tastes great too! Another favourite is Drakes Restaurant at Duck Inn, the food is nothing short of amazing. Treat yo self and go for 3 courses! Travelling with the fam? Drakes do offer a 2-course kids menu, so you can bring the whole family.
