What’s New in Whistler this Season?
With Whistler Blackcomb once again awarded the top spot as #1 Overall Ski Resort in North America by Ski Magazine, it’s high time to discover Whistler for yourself. If you’re a beginner Whistler Blackcomb is a great place to learn with a whole dedicated beginner zone and covered magic carpets to get you sliding. Improving the beginner experience to help get more people involved in our beloved snow sports has always been a high priority for Whistler Blackcomb Snow School. In preparation for the upcoming season, the Olympic learning area received a substantial upgrade. Massive earthworks were conducted to regrade the terrain, optimizing it for new skiers and boarders. 2 new covered carpets have been added, reducing congestion and significantly improving learning progression. A 40 foot extension of the Level 1 carpet has been added, as well as TBL (Terrain Based Learning) features which will improve and accelerate learning. Snow making capacity has also been improved by 100% on the beginner’s area, with 32 extra low-energy snow guns, ensuring the learning zone is open early and providing the best possible surface season long.
For all those thinking of returning to Whistler this season – there’s been some snazzy upgrades to the Roundhouse Lodge & GLC, meaning the après scene just got better! The Roundhouse Lodge has a new upper and lower deck, increasing by another 100 outdoor seats; with heaters on the upper deck keeping you toasty warm throughout winter. The GLC has also received new seats, heaters and fire-pits, increasing capacity and comfort at Whistler’s signature slope-side après restaurant. Though, the F&B addition we’re most excited about – a dedicated GRILLED CHEESE HUT!!! Yes, a dedicated hut at Olympic Station will be serving up a selection of delicious, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, fries, soups & coffee. We’ll take 20 please!
