A.I.R Myoko

A.I.R Myoko

A.I.R. Myoko (artist in residence) is a boutique ski chalet, restaurant and gallery, located in Myoko, Japan. In winter we enjoy absolute ski-in ski-out to one of the snowiest mountains in Japan. Our focus is on the change of seasons throughout the year. This is expressed through good cuisine, art and design.
Each year we a invite a select chef, artist and designer/craftsperson to showcase. The restaurant serves plant based cuisine (primarily vegan) with the majority of food sourced locally and seasonally. For dinner we serve a degustation set menu and for breakfast fresh sourdough, fresh juice, specialty coffee and Japanese and Western cooked options. A.I.R. is not like a traditional hotel but a melding of ryokan hospitality and contemporary comforts. Our rooms are traditional Japanese tatami rooms with shoji windows overlooking the ski-runs.  They are austerely elegant and don’t have televisions.
Onsen: Our thermal mountain spring onsens overlook the ski run and are available for private use. The thermal water flows from beneath the volcanic mountain and contain various minerals known to provide various therapeutic benefits the the skin and body. Perfect to relax and unwind after a day on the mountain.
The restaurant: Breakfast is served daily to guests and includes  fresh juice of the day, in house baked sourdough and local specialty coffee. It is all plant based and nutritionally designed for a day on the slopes. At night our restaurant hosts an intimate dining experience inspired by traditional Kaiseki cuisine. The eight course degustation is plant-based and highlights local fresh produce.  Our wine list focuses on Japanese minimal intervention wines from the region (Niigata, Nagano, Yamanashi and Yamagata) as well as sake and whisky.
