Naeba Ski Resort is connected with neighbouring Kagura Ski Resort by Dragondola, Japan’s longest gondola. The entire area is called “Mt. Naeba”, which consists of 2 ski areas and has many fans from home and abroad. Naeba Prince Hotel at the bottom of the ski area has 1,216 rooms and offers various fun experiences such as gourmet dining, shopping and hot springs. The resort has very convenient access from the Tokyo area as it takes just 2 and half hours by train or car. Directly in front of the 1,216 rooms Naeba Prince Hotel sits Naeba Ski Resort which offers an exciting ski field designed for the whole family. There are fun beginner trails for children, challenging trails for advanced skiers, as well as terrain parks for all level riders. At night, the trails in front of the hotel are beautifully illuminated for night skiing. However, the fun doesn’t stop at Naeba, as the 5.5 km Dragondola, Japan's longest gondola, connects Naeba with the neighbouring Kagura Ski Resort. Together the two resorts form “Mt. Naeba”. Kagura offers another large ski resort with numerous runs, expansive terrain parks, and amazing backcountry terrain. Kagura Ski Resort is divided into three areas, Kagura, Tashiro and Mitsumata. Due to Kagura’s high altitude (1,800m), the resort receives an abundant amount of light dry powder snow and has the longest ski season in Japan. The on-piste terrain offers plenty of trails for beginners and intermediates, and powder lovers will enjoy the ungroomed trails and tree runs which are easily accessed from the lifts. Some of Japan’s most exciting backcountry terrain is also accessible from the top of Kagura. English speaking backcountry guides and English backcountry permission forms are available at the resort. Kagura Ski Resort is connected to Naeba Ski Resort via the world’s longest gondola, the Dragondola, and resort area shuttle buses. Naeba Mountain Information: 196ha, 24 Trails, Max. Naeba Ski Resort
Naeba is located north of Tokyo in the Niigara Prefecture which is known for their rice and sake. Boasting some of the largest skiable terrain on the island of Honshu, Naeba is known for having family friendly amenities, easy access from Tokyo and two unique ski areas. Two of Naeba’s ski areas, Mt. Naeba and Kagura are conveniently connected by the Tashiro Gondola named the “Dragondola”. This purpose built ski resort also has convenient ski-in, ski-out access to the lifts and more westernized facilities, which can be seen as an advantage for guests who’s first time it may be to a Japanese ski resort.
Where to stay in Naeba
Naeba offers four main accommodation options, all under the Prince Hotel group. Each individual building is dedicated to specific travelers needs. Building 2 of the Prince Hotel is suitable for families and groups, Building 3 has a chic and elegant interior suitable for couples or those twin sharing, and Building 4 and 6, which are more lead in room types that are excellent for groups and families. All four buildings have convenient ski in ski out access to mountain, and combined have plenty of restaurants, game rooms and shopping to keep the whole family entertained. Naeba also have a dedicated onsen available for guests to use during the winter months.
Skiing and Snowboarding Naeba
Naeba is made up of two dedicated ski areas, Mt. Naeba and Kagura. Kagura is also made up of three interlinking resorts, Kagura, Tashiro and Mitsumata. Combined the total skiable area at Naeba is 954 acres, which is suitable for all levels of riders. Families will particular enjoy Naeba as it hosts excellent ski school facilities, English speaking group lessons and child-minding services. Unlike other Japanese ski resorts, Naeba also offers skiers and snowboarders the opportunity to cat ski, which is most suitable to intermediate and advanced riders.
How to get to Naeba
Flights from Australia to Tokyo run daily on most major airlines that travel to Japan. Once arriving in Narita International Airport or Haneda International Airport, it is best to board either a bus or train via Tokyo Station and Echigo Yuzawa Station to Naeba. Trip times vary between 2.5-3.5 hours depending on scheduling and what mode of transport you choose.
Getting around in Naeba
Being a purpose build ski resort, makes it quite easy to access Naeba’s amenities. Whilst staying at Prince Hotel you will most, if not all your comforts at your fingertips, as everything is under the one roof. As well as having ski-in, ski-out access, you won’t be having to find a shuttle to the mountain each day, as you will only be steps away.

Naeba is definitely an all-rounder resort. Having great access to a range of incredible terrain is just where it starts. Naeba hosts a wide variety of experiences and activities that can not be missed when you are visiting this resort. A trip to Naeba is not complete with out experiencing The Wako Wako Family Snowland, with activities including tubing, a snow train and snowmobiling on offer.
