Our Lift Tickets tips for Wanaka
Wanaka is a quaint, quiet lakeside alpine village, perfectly located for holidaymakers wanting to ski some of New Zealand’s most popular peaks. In 2020 Cardrona Alpine Resort purchased neighbouring ski resort Treble Cone, so now you can purchase one lift pass and ski both Treble Cone and Cardrona. This is excellent news for all winter visitors, as it means that guests can choose which peak is best suited to their ski or snowboarding skill levels or can choose whichever mountain has better conditions on the day! Two incredible peaks on one lift pass for lots more terrain, at one great price!
Cardrona Alpine Resort is approximately 20 minutes’ drive from the heart of Wanaka, the resort is well-known for its excellent family facilities and a favourite for both local and international visitors “Cardies” has 2 pipes and 400 hectares of terrain to explore as well as multiple world-class terrain parks. The mountains terrain is split quite evenly to suit all levels of skier and snowboarder, 25% Beginner slopes, 25% intermediate runs, 30% advanced and 20% of terrain caters to people with expert skills. There are 6 lift options, including the McDougall’s Express Chodola & conveyors for beginner’s slope area. Learn to ski programs are readily available for first timers, as well as private lessons to rapidly develop skills, snow sports and a child specific ski program. Cardrona also has great on-mountain restaurants, après-ski and concierge services.
Treble Cone is home to New Zealand’s largest skiable area and New Zealand’s longest vertical rise, an impressive addition to the Cardona lift pass! Treble Cone ski field has iconic views of Lake Wanaka and is well-known for its exciting off-piste terrain and wide uncrowded runs. While there are dedicated areas for beginners at Treble Cone, it is snow-paradise for intermediate to advanced skiers and boarders. The steeper, more challenging terrain available and natural half pipes in the Saddle Basin make for a breathtaking winter playground. If you are seeking an epic New Zealand backcountry ski experience, Treble Cone has beautiful options right from the top of the chairlift.
If these two mountains still aren’t enough to get you packing your bags – Wanaka is also only an hour and a half away from popular Queenstown ski resorts, Coronet Peak & The Remarkables. You can visit both ski resorts from Wanaka and make it home in time for tea! Wanaka truly is a snow lover’s dream holiday destination.
